Background Information

As DOE removes items already here for disposal, steps will be taken to reduce the amount of waste material. DOE is using the CERCLA process to make a decision about what to do with these materials. This decision process needs your input, and Kentucky and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency must review and approve of the decision. Continued cleanup of the Paducah Site is projected to dispose of between 1.5 million – 4 million cubic yards of material such as demolition debris, metals, soils, asbestos and other items.
